Understanding the Costs of 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in India

Different yoga schools have different fee structure to cover only certain elements. For example certain yoga schools may offer price without accommodation or without meals. So it is only in your interest to ask what does the fee cover. Opt for a 200-hour yoga teacher training in India which is all inclusive and covers all elements like course fee, accommodation, study material, mineral water etc. Additionally some yoga schools will offer you a free airport transfer on arrival which is especially useful if you are a first time traveller.

The biggest cost of your fee is the range of yoga teachers and accommodation, some yoga schools may offer an attractive price of 900 USD excluding accommodation and renting  accommodation can add to up to considerable costs on your own.

The lowest price may not be your best option

Opting for the cheapest 200-hour yttc sometimes may not be your best option. Good teachers do not come cheap and it is important for you to ask how many teachers are going to teach you. A good range of teachers will give you the much needed perspective of different ways of teaching. More the merrier is the rule when it comes to number of yoga teachers. Also do check for quality of accommodation and meals being offered, you can always ask for pictures of campus, rooms and what kind of food is offered in meals.

The fee changes from school to school

With thousand of schools across India the fee keeps changing from one school to the other. It is very much like any educational institution and much depends on the facilities offered, quality of teachers, location of the school etc. So the yoga schools can change from being luxury to value and the fee for the 200-hour yoga teacher training in India can vary from 1200 USD to 2000 USD. We would say that any yoga school that charges upwards of 2000 USD should be more in the category of luxury and you should check for what facilities do they offer for the fee and then decide whether it’s worth the cost for the course.

Check for other costs

As you spend about 24 to 26 days doing the 200-hour yoga teacher training you are likely to spend some time out during the course on the weekends exploring local restaurants. Also your course fee will not cover for extras like beverages and other snacks that you want to order from the kitchen during the course as only standard three meals are covered for the trainings. The cost of eating out on the weekends is relatively very cheap when compared to west, average cost of each meal can range from 5 USD to 7 USD per meal. So on an average you will end up spending about 100 to 150 USD on food in restaurants for the month of training depending on how you choose your restaurants. Largely you do not need any medical insurance as mandatory to travel to India and a visit to a good doctor is not expensive, it is just about 15 USD with the medicines for most common problems like fever or an upset stomach. Also most common medicines are sold over the counter in India and they are cheap when compared to the west.

Location of the yoga school

One of the key factors impacting the cost is also the location of the yoga school. It’s like choosing between expensive city Vs relatively smaller city. So there can be difference in fee when you compare yoga schools in Mysore Vs Goa. Goa is more touristic place which offers the finest beaches in India along with tourist oriented mindsets of locals. The cost of running a yoga school in goa is much higher when compared to smaller towns in India. Hence the cost of 200-hour yoga teacher training in Goa can be little on the higher side for the over all experience of travelling in the most touristy place in the country. But it is worth the experience when you immerse into the rich Goan culture which is a fine blend of local Indian culture and Portuguese culture, after all they ruled Goa for about 450 years.

In the end there are no shorts cuts to your research, you will have to invest some time finding out what goes best with you when it comes to selecting the right yoga school. Invest time in asking the right questions to the yoga school you select and go with your personal intuition in deciding what suits you best.
