About This Course

Yin Yoga is the gentle application of tension and compression to the body which induces a healthy “phase change” in the tissue. The practice is characterised by long, static holds (3-5 minutes), using floor based asanas for muscle relaxation and myofascial release, allowing for a meditative focus.

Yin yoga has become a commonly practiced style of yoga due to its positive benefits on the body, mind and spirit. Incorporating a mix of Yogic, Taoist and Buddhist practices, Trimurti’s Yin Yoga teacher training course is a 2-level program preparing you for teaching Yin Yoga safely and consciously: “Module 1” focuses on the functional approach and “Module 2” focuses on the energetic approach to yin yoga & Traditional Chinese Medicine (5 Elements).

Syllabus

It is recommended to have completed a 200 hour TTC or have a minimum of 1 year dedicated yoga practice.

The full program covers:

  • Asana and Meditation
  • Anatomy and Target Areas
  • Five Elements Theory
  • Chinese Medicine and Meridian Theory
  • The Art of Teaching
  • Yogic Philosophy

Binding together theory and practice, each day will include a yin yoga practice, promoting yin’s “function over form” approach, meditation and relevant theory classes, as well as some yin-yang exploration.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Follow a career in yin yoga
  • Incorporate techniques learned into your teaching and self practice
  • Broaden your teaching expertise with new knowledge from a yin perspective
  • Offer your students a new style of yoga which complements and balances other practices

You will learn:

  • Yin asanas and their target areas
  • The principles and history of yin yoga and its function over form approach
  • Teaching methodology of yin yoga
  • To sequence a yin class focusing on the energetic body through meridian channels and the 5 elements, the physical body through myofascial release, and the mental body through a variety of techniques.
  • Muscles mandalas with physical and energetic target areas
  • Fascia connective tissue and the body’s living energy web
  • Chinese Medicine and 5 Elements, Meridian theory and Qi theory
  • The nature of Yin and Yang
  • Meditation and Qi Gong practices

Module 1 - Functional Approach to Yin Yoga:

Anatomy

  • Learn the muscle mandalas and target areas
  • Develop knowledge of the joints and Bones
  • Develop knowledge of the body’s living energy web
  • Differentiate between Elasticity and Plasticity
  • Differentiate between Tension and Compression
  • Study fascia connective tissue and fuzz
  • Study the nature of fluid
  • Take a look into the difference of yin and yang yoga on muscles and joints
  • Develop adjustment, alignment and modification knowledge and technique through asana breakdown
  • Introduction the to the art of teaching

Module 2 - Energetic Approach to Yin Yoga:

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Meridian Theory, The Art of Teaching and Sequencing, and Philosophy

TCM and Meridian Theory (5 Elements)

  • Take a look into TCM and 5 elements Theory
  • Explore meridian theory
  • Daily meridian tracing
  • Take a look into Yin and Yang
  • Take a look into Toaism
  • Practice Qi Gong
  • Discover and play with fascia connective tissue and the body’s living energy system

Art of Teaching and Sequencing

  • Learn the responsibilities of a yin yoga teacher
  • Learn how to sequence with smooth transitions
  • Meditation
  • Study and discuss teaching methodology
  • Study and discuss the art of propping
  • Study and discuss the art of teaching
